Micronized PE wax is solid wax reduced to micron size by cryogenic or mechanical grinding. It is used not as a melt but as powder particles, and it works at the surface of the drying film.

How it works

As a paint or ink dries, the wax particles migrate toward the surface and form a microscopic layer there. This layer lowers the coefficient of friction and makes the surface "slippery". The result: scratch resistance, less wear in handling and printed surfaces that do not stick to each other.

What particle size determines

Fine particles (below 5 µm) provide slip while preserving gloss; coarse particles (above 10 µm) scatter light at the surface and create a matting effect. The right size has to be chosen for your goal.

Key Features

  • Micron-sized particles — Create controlled roughness at the film surface.
  • Scratch and rub resistance — Increases the mechanical durability of the coating.
  • Anti-blocking — Prevents printed and coated surfaces from sticking together.
  • Matting effect — Gloss is reduced in a controlled way, depending on particle size.

How does it work?

Frequently Asked Questions About This Product

At which stage is micronized wax added to paint?

Usually at the final stage, mixed in at low shear. Adding it during grinding damages the particle structure and reduces the desired surface effect.

Which particle size do I need for a matting effect or for slip?

Fine particles (below 5 µm) provide slip while preserving gloss; coarse particles (above 10 µm) scatter light at the surface and create a matting effect. We can work out the right size for your goal together.

What packaging is micronized PE wax available in?

Micronized PE wax is supplied in 25 kg PE-lined kraft paper bags (1,375 kg per pallet) or in 500–1,000 kg jumbo bags (FIBC). A 20' container takes approximately 20 tonnes.

Can I get a technical data sheet for micronized PE wax?

Yes. The values on this page are typical production ranges common in the industry; exact values for a batch are given in the technical data sheet (TDS) and certificate of analysis (CoA). You can request them through the quote form by choosing the "Catalog / TDS / SDS" option.
