Oxidized PE Wax Polyethylene Wax (PE Wax) Oxidized

Oxidized Polyethylene Wax

Oxidized polyethylene wax is a polar wax with carboxyl groups added to its chain. It is the type with the best pigment wetting and dispersion performance, and the standard for PVC and masterbatch applications.

Oxidized polyethylene wax (OPE wax) is produced by the controlled oxidation of non-oxidized wax. This process adds carboxyl (–COOH) groups to the molecular chain and makes the wax polar. Polarity lets the wax interact much better with polar surfaces such as pigments, fillers and metals.

Why it excels at dispersion

A pigment agglomerate must first be wetted before it can be dispersed. A non-polar wax cannot wet a polar pigment surface well; an oxidized wax, by contrast, anchors to the surface through its carboxyl groups and penetrates the agglomerate. That is why oxidized types are the standard in masterbatch formulations with high pigment loadings.

Balanced lubrication in PVC

PVC processing needs two kinds of lubricant: an internal lubricant that reduces friction within the melt, and an external lubricant that prevents sticking to the die surface. Thanks to its polarity, oxidized PE wax partly performs both functions and simplifies the formulation.

How does it work?

Frequently Asked Questions About This Product

What dosage of oxidized PE wax should I use in a masterbatch formulation?

The typical dosage is 2–5% and increases with pigment loading. The exact level is set by trials according to the carrier resin and extruder type. Too much wax weakens tensile strength and adhesion properties in the end product.

Why does acid value matter?

Acid value (ASTM D1386) indicates the polarity of the wax. A higher acid value wets pigment and filler surfaces better and makes dispersion easier. But higher is not always better: very high values can cause stability problems and a risk of metal corrosion in some systems.

What packaging is oxidized PE wax available in?

Oxidized PE wax is supplied in 25 kg PE-lined kraft paper bags (1,375 kg per pallet) or in 500–1,000 kg jumbo bags (FIBC). A 20' container takes approximately 20 tonnes.

Can I get a technical data sheet for oxidized PE wax?

Yes. The values on this page are typical production ranges common in the industry; exact values for a batch are given in the technical data sheet (TDS) and certificate of analysis (CoA). You can request them through the quote form by choosing the "Catalog / TDS / SDS" option.
