Carbon black pellets pouring from a big bag into a mixing hopper
FIG. 01 · N220 · Iodine adsorption number 121 ± 5 g/kg

With an iodine adsorption of 121 g/kg, N220 carbon black is one of the highest-surface-area standard grades in the range. It is the first choice wherever abrasion resistance and mechanical strength come first.

Conductivity

The combination of high surface area and structure gives N220 notable electrical conductivity among the standard grades. This property is put to functional use in antistatic conveyor belts and conductive rubber parts.

What to watch for

It combines relatively low modulus with high hardness; however, it tends to build up heat in dynamic applications. This behavior must be taken into account in parts that run continuously at high speed.

Applications

Truck and passenger car tire treads, conveyor and industrial belts, mechanical rubber goods, and polymer and plastic compounds that require high mechanical performance.

How does it work?

Frequently Asked Questions About This Product

Why is N220 used in conductive applications?

Thanks to its iodine adsorption of 121 g/kg and high structure, it has notable electrical conductivity among the standard grades. This property is put to functional use in antistatic conveyor belts and conductive rubber parts.

Does N220 heat up in dynamic applications?

Yes, this is known behavior. High surface area means high hysteresis loss, and this loss turns into heat. Heat management must be taken into account in parts that run continuously at high speed.

What packaging is N220 available in?

We offer two options: a 1,000 kg double-valve PP-PE jumbo bag and a 20 kg two-ply kraft paper-PE bag. A pallet of bags holds 1,100 kg of product; a 20' container takes 8,800 kg and a truck 19,800 kg. With jumbo bags, these figures are 10,000 kg and 22,000 kg respectively.

Does N220 come with a certificate of analysis and a safety data sheet?

Yes. Every shipment is sent with a certificate of analysis (CoA) for that batch, issued by an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. We send the safety data sheet (SDS) on request; if you would like to see a sample report before ordering, you can ask for one through the quote form.
